For our final show of the year, Music Mends presents indie composer musician PAUL SPRING, joining us at the tailend of his national tour. Based in NYC, Paul Spring, brings together classical guitar, baroque chorales, 808s, and Irish Traditional melodies into a sound all his own.

He's recorded more than 14 albums under "Paul Spring" and "Holy Hive," has been sampled by "Vic Mensa," "TOBi," "Kirby," "Thundercat," toured alongside "Dawes" and "Shovels and Rope," and has even been seen live on SNL as a vocalist with "Post Malone." As a J.S. Bach-inspired guitarist, Paul Spring has developed a way to play a harp sound on his guitar and released an album of twelve string transcriptions of his work.

Paul Spring’s new album Kind of Heaven was recorded live over two days in June 2024. Joined by drummer Jon Nellen (Nick Hakim, Big Thief, Sister Ray), the songs were captured promptly and energetically by live tracking vocals and committing to the performances. With only a few overdubs (bass and electric guitar), the intention was to capture the spirit of the songs and accept any mistakes. The 10 songs on the album range from heartfelt acoustic ballads to open tuning Celtic guitar arrangements and Bach inspired counterpoint. The album’s only guest, Nick Hakim, adds a beautiful meandering piano performance to “I’d be Lying.” That song, and many others on the album, express lyrics that walk the ever present line between gratitude and longing.
